Harnessing Contemporary Student Culture with Mobile and Web Technology
Professional Development Opportunity
A local Brisbane mobile learning research team would like to invite teachers and IT staff to attend a professional development workshop on teaching with mobile and web technologies. Specifically, the professional development workshops will introduce teachers how to use MiLK, the Mobile Learning Kit with their students.
What is MiLK?
MiLK is a new way for teachers to connect students, curriculum and everyday environments using simple web and mobile technologies. MiLK is a web-based authoring tool designed to allow both students and teachers to build dynamic learning events in a few simple steps. In addition to building and playing events, MiLK offers many other features including various areas for group discussion, reflection journals and student profiles.
The MiLK system and workshops are provided by the Australasian CRC for Interaction Design and Queensland University of Technology
Professional Development Workshops
Through the workshop you will learn to use the simple MiLK web interface, including;
* Class and Student Profiles
* Event Builder
* Reflection Journals
* Discussion Forums
* Administration Processes
In the workshop you will first experience playing a sample MiLK event, and then have an opportunity to build your own event. To conclude the workshop, participants will discuss the benefits of teaching with MiLK and design three different scenarios for applying MiLK in the classroom.
In addition to the knowledge and skills gained through participating in the workshop, you will receive a USB storage device containing:
* A trial account (1 teacher and 1 student profile to experiment with)
* MiLK quick-start guides for teachers and students
* Resources for teaching with MiLK
* Tips and Tricks document for building effective events
